Mission

Delivering Innovation in Supportive Housing believes that everyone deserves a home. Every day, we provide high-quality, permanent housing to San Franciscans who suffer from serious health issues—because with our help, they can get off the streets, rebuild their lives, and strengthen our communities.

What We Do

Delivering Innovation in Supportive Housing (DISH) was started in September of 2006 by Directors Lauren Hall and Doug Gary to provide property management services for the Direct Access to Housing Program, a project of the San Francisco Department of Public Health. The guiding principle for DISH is to be a nimble organization dedicated to serving adults with complex health, mental health, and substance use issues in supportive housing. Our goal is to be a strong partner in the City’s effort to end homelessness in San Francisco. DISH assumed management of the Pacific Bay Inn and the Empress Hotel in October of 2006, and the Camelot, Le Nain, Star, and Windsor hotels in July of 2007. DISH provides housing for 450 tenants and has 60 employees. Harm reduction is central to DISH's mission and values. Harm reduction means meeting people where they are at – without expectation or judgment. Our job is to help people stay housed – not to put shame or judgment or our own expectations onto our tenants regarding their drug use, untreated illnesses or any other behaviors that some may see as harmful. We offer services and activities to those who would like to utilize them, to build community, improve health, and help our tenants get back on their feet. DISH has been successful, year after year, with 93% of our tenants expressing overall satisfaction with our services.
